Scott J. Sholder is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Group. Scott represents individuals and companies in the entertainment, traditional and digital media, sports, and consumer products industries. His practice focuses on matters involving copyrights, trademarks, the right of publicity, and contractual and business disputes.
Scott represents client in federal and state courts at the trial and appellate levels, as well as before mediators, arbitrators, and international domain name dispute tribunals. Recent matters include litigating a high-profile copyright case in the music industry, a trademark case concerning a professional sports team’s name, and a precedent-setting appeal dealing with the intersection of the First Amendment and the rights of publicity and privacy. Scott also counsels and defends social media and online news and content providers in connection with defamation and false light claims as well as image licensing and other online copyright issues.
Scott’s articles have appeared in Intellectual Property Magazine, NYSBA’s Bright Ideas, and IP Law360, and he has been featured as a panelist and moderator in several copyright and litigation-related CLE programs. Prior to joining the firm in 2013, Scott was a litigation associate with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, LLP, and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Peter G. Sheridan in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Honorable Leonard I. Garth in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
