DAS is pleased to announce a new co-head of the firm’s entertainment practice, new co-heads of the firm’s Los Angeles office, a partner promotion, and further development of the art law group.
Frederick P. Bimbler (Fred) is joined by Caitlin S. DiMotta in heading up the firm’s entertainment practice. With almost 30 years’ experience as a dedicated entertainment lawyer, Fred has a long history of providing invaluable advice to many clients in the areas of motion picture, television, theatre, and performance art. Fred services his large portfolio of clients on both coasts and will co-head management of the firm’s Los Angeles office with partner Sarah Conley Odenkirk.
Based in Los Angeles, Caitlin joined the firm in 2021 and has been a tremendous resource supporting creatives in building successful businesses. She works with clients in all areas of development and publishing in the television, literary, comic book/graphic novel, and motion picture industries.
Pooneh Aminian (Los Angeles) has been elevated to partner. Pooneh, who joined CDAS in 2018, counsels clients on entertainment and media law transactional matters and has considerable experience negotiating deals and drafting agreements for talent and companies in the television (scripted and unscripted), motion picture, digital media, and video game industries. Pooneh works with studios, production companies, and joint ventures, primarily negotiating development and rights acquisitions deals and continues to build business and represent interests in these areas. She also serves as production counsel for television and motion picture productions.
As the use of technology in creative industries, specifically fine art and photography, is rapidly evolving, along with increased client demand, the firm is further developing its Art Law practice group. Sarah Conley Odenkirk (Los Angeles) and Nancy E. Wolff (New York) continue to co-head the group.
Both Sarah and Nancy have spent years building practices supporting the interests of artists, photographers, collectors, and art institutions, and now combine these efforts to advise even more clients in high-net worth transactions, litigation, and the development of best practices and industry standard as they navigate changing developments and evolving technology across creative industries and digital platforms.
Nancy, who also co-chairs the firm’s Litigation Department, was recently appointed to the AI Task Force of the American Bar Association section of IP Law for 2022-2023. She also recently, along with Litigation Department co-head, Scott Sholder, co-authored a chapter for the Chambers Copyright 2023 Global Practice Guide on recent trends and developments in the US which focuses on copyright implications for generative AI.
Sarah serves on the American Bar Association Intellectual Property Section’s NFT Task Force and recently participated as a panelist in the U.S. Copyright Office’s NFT Roundtable Session.
Kenneth Swezey, Managing Partner of Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Sheppard stated, “The firm is starting off 2023 strong with a lot of great news. We are excited about the leadership roles that Fred and Caitlin assume as they bring their deep bench of industry knowledge and creative vision to entertainment law. We celebrate Pooneh’s elevation which shows our commitment to growth as well as the important contributions that she has made to our clients and the firm. Additionally, as we extend our Art Law focus, Nancy and Sarah remain on the forefront of developments as they guide clients through the creative and technology changes which have widely impacted art law and creative industries.”
