owan DeBaets Abrahams & Sheppard, LLP (CDAS) was proud to have three firm members appear as panelists for this years Media Summit NY. Steven Masur, Kenneth N. Swezey and Simon Pulman each provided unique perspective on an array of topics, and provided attendees with valuable insight and advice.
CDAS Partner Steven Masur was the first of the CDAS attorneys to speak at the event during Tuesday’s panel titled “Leveraging Content and Celebrity for Cross Platform Success: Brands and Star Power Collaborate”. Mr. Masur moderated this panel and was joined by Dawnie Walton of Essence Magazine, Carol Goll of ICM Partners, Kevin Chernett of Live Nation Network, Johnathan Carson of VEVO, and Linda Ong of TruthCo. Mr. Masur led a discussion focused on the importance of leveraging pop culture and content to allow brands and talent to connect with consumers. Mr. Masur brings unique strategic business experience to CDAS. He has counseled enterprise level clients including Shazam, Virgin Mobile, Liberty Media, Yamaha, Nielsen Buzzmetrics, Bob Vila and Conde Nast Publications in corporate, digital media, and new business matters.
CDAS Partner Kenneth N. Swezey was a member of the panel titled “The Art of the Deal In the Era of Digital IP : Pointers, Advice and Hands-on Tools from Master Entertainment Negotiators”. Mr. Swezey was joined by David Tenzer of the Law Office of David Tenzer, who moderated the panel, as well as Seth Jarrett of Jarrett Creative Group, Inc., Eric Rayman of Miller Korzenik Sommers LLP, and Daniel Laikind of Original Media. The panel discussed the present state of entertainment law, and how individuals involved can craft deals in order to retain ownership of certain rights. Mr. Swezey focuses on transactional counseling in copyright, corporate, digital media, entertainment, publishing and other intellectual property and commercial matters for CDAS. He has substantial experience representing companies and individual clients in the emerging fields of digital media, social media and trans-media.
CDAS associate Simon Pulman moderated a panel titled “The New York Convergence Resurgence: Talent, Festivals, Brands, Creativity”. Mr. Pulman was joined by Matt Bolish of the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Mr.Pulman is a transactional attorney practicing primarily in the areas of entertainment and digital media law. He counsels clients across the film, television, publishing, advertising and digital sectors in business and intellectual property matters, with a particular focus on the negotiation of financing, content distribution and digital licensing agreements.
