leanor M. Lackman joins the panel “TV or Not TV: Legal Challenges for Internet Video Services,” part of the day-long 2012 Copyright and Technology Conference – the conference examines the latest developments in copyright and content security – on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Manhattan Penthouse, 80 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY. “TV or not TV” is the third of three panels and runs from 3:30pm to 4:45pm.
New video services and devices are blurring the lines between broadcast, cable, satellite, and Internet video. Broadcasters and managed service operators have had certain rights enshrined in copyright law, but new services are emerging that test the boundaries of those laws. Cablevision expanded the definition of DVR, while Aereo hopes to expand the definition of broadcast television. This session examines provisions of copyright law at issue and discusses both recent litigations and where future legal battlegrounds may well be.
Ms. Lackman focuses on litigation and counseling in copyright, trademark, digital media and entertainment, with a specialization in matters at the intersection of intellectual property and new technology; she lectures and is published widely in the field.
