Matthew A. Kaplan Speaks at the Human Resources Association of New York’s 2012 Legislative & Legal Conference

DAS partner Matthew A. Kaplan will be speaking at the Legislative & Legal Conference: What You Must Know, presented by the Human Resources Association of New York, on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in New York City. The conference will address the federal, state, local legislative and legal developments relevant to the HR practitioner. In his session – HR’s Role in the Protection of Proprietary Business Information – Mr. Kaplan will discuss how businesses can address the risk of employee theft of confidential and proprietary business information and/or trade secrets given the evolution of technology and the increased pace and volume of electronic information transmission. Mr. Kaplan will discuss how statutes such as the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act have been interpreted, and will offer pointers on how to help protect business information including through enhancements to computer and communications use policies and employee agreements.

Mr. Kaplan has extensive experience counseling employers on numerous employment issues, including enforceability of non-competition and non-solicitation clauses, assisting employers with hiring and termination issues, advising on wage and hour issues, revising and drafting employment manuals, and a variety of employment-related litigation work.
