he DocuWeeks Film Festival launched today. In New York City at IFC, it begins today Friday, August 3, and runs through Thursday. August 30. In Los Angeles at Laemmle NoHo 7, it runs from Friday, August 10 through Thursday, August 30.
Featured at the festival, Ricky on Leacock explores the life and work of the legendary British documentarian Richard Leacock who influenced generations of filmmakers during his long career and changed the way movies are made. Ricky on Leacock is a cinematic journey that director and CDAS client Jane Weiner began as a young filmmaker. Over 38 years, she filmed her encounters with Leacock’s friends and contemporaries to understand the life and work of this documentary icon, a pioneer of “direct cinema”.
Executive produced by CDAS client Diane Markrow, the film also gained notoriety for its very successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year. Robert I. Freedman represents Ms. Weiner and Ms. Markrow, and was also counsel for the production. The filmmakers will be in attendance at certain shows from August 10 through August 13.
