COWAN, DEBAETS, ABRAHAMS & SHEPPARD LLP ADDS LEADING TECH AND VENTURE LAW GROUP

ew York, NY—April 3, 2013 — Cowan DeBaets Abrahams & Sheppard LLP (CDAS) announces today that key members of the Venture Law Group of MasurLaw, a leading New York venture finance, technology and digital media firm have moved to CDAS. The new talent will enhance CDAS’s venture financing and digital media capabilities and complement CDAS’s rapidly expanding Digital Media Practice Group, which provides counsel to disruptive broadband video, mobile, gaming, content licensing, digital publishing and branded content companies.

The incoming Venture Law Group has built a strong reputation in the tech, digital and venture capital communities. For over twenty years, it has provided counsel to innovative companies on strategic deals, corporate finance, M&A and entertainment, and represented clients including Shazam, Institute for Play, Virgin Mobile, Warner Music Group, Buon Giorno, Yamaha, Bob Vila and Angela Lindvall. It also developed a focus in serving companies seeking to break into emerging markets including China, Russia and the Middle East, as well as helping foreign companies set up operations in the United States.

The arrival of the new attorneys – Steve MasurAsad Jaferi and David Mazur – will accelerate CDAS’s growth as the firm continues to expand its profile within New York’s rapidly burgeoning digital tech industry. It also places CDAS among a handful of U.S. law firms with full service entertainment, branded content, intellectual property and digital media capabilities.

“I am thrilled to welcome Steve, Asad and David,” said Kenneth Swezey, Managing Partner at CDAS. “Digital media, technology and venture financing are significant areas of focus for the firm, as we see an increasing number of clients across the media and entertainment spaces embracing digital challenges. The addition of MasurLaw’s Venture Law Group will enable us to provide our clients with superior value and help them seize the business opportunities of the future.”

MasurLaw’s Venture Law Group operates across the media, technology, Internet, e-commerce, mobile and gaming industries. It is also an early mover in representing clients within the expanding fields of social media and broadband video platforms (e.g. Netflix, Youtube), counseling brands, intellectual property owners and celebrities on strategic integrations and partnerships. The CDAS team will continue working to craft synergies between the firm’s extensive array of top tier clients in film, television, publishing, music and photography and its expanding digital media, venture finance and tech practices.

“We could not be more excited to join CDAS,” said Steven Masur. “Our long-term goal has been to break down the silos that separate media, entertainment, retail and technology, and to encourage these sectors to work together and speak the same language. At CDAS, we will be able to provide strategic counsel and value to clients well beyond the financing stage, while leveraging the firm’s roster of experienced attorneys and network of relationships. These new resources will allow us to help start-ups and large corporations within emerging industries engage brands and celebrities and really move the needle in the mass market. We look forward to seeing what we can all achieve together.”
