eptember 24, 2024 – New York, NY – Cowan, DeBaets is pleased to announce that corporate M&A partner Stuart Goldfarb has been appointed to the prestigious Sport Management Advisory Council of the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse University. Led by David Falk, the Council is comprised of a who’s who in sports.
Stuart advises clients in the sports, media, and entertainment industries and has represented regulatory bodies, leagues, and teams across several sports. He most recently served as General Counsel to the Local Organizing Committee for the US matches of the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup (the first time this event happened in the US), which covered all legal matters in connection with the operation of 17 matches at venues in New York, Florida and Texas including the construction of a 34,000-seat temporary stadium in Long Island.
Stuart advised the worldwide governing body for the sport of cricket, the International Cricket Council in connection with its Rights Protection Program, covering counterfeiting, ambush marketing, and data scouting. Together with the ICC’s in-house counsel and local counsel in Florida and Texas under Stuart’s supervision, Stuart managed teams of interns and volunteers and liaised with security at the three US locations for the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup to enforce ICC policy with respect to these areas to protect the ICC’s interests and integrity.
Stuart’s soccer clients have included the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport’s world governing body, and CONCACAF, the governing body for the region comprising North and Central America and the Caribbean, and he has engaged extensively with the United States Soccer Federation and Major League Soccer. Additionally, he has led legal and business affairs for Pelé. Stuart was a key player in the founding of the relaunched North American Soccer League in 2009 and has advised the near 100 team National Premier Soccer League (the fourth division league in the US) as outside General Counsel.
The Council’s esteemed group of sport industry professionals and practitioners provides an inner circle of advisors and supporters for the Department of Sport Management. The Council provides input and guidance for short- and long-term goals, student internships, employment opportunities, curriculum development and classroom instruction. It champions the program to prospective supporters, students, business colleagues, and the community.
